ABOUT US
The Florida Surf are an AAU Full Ice Mite Hockey organization based out of West Palm Beach which operate under the Longwood Hockey Umbrella. Our staff combines decades of knowledge in the fields of coaching, playing, and ownership at every level from mites to the NHL to provide consistently excellent development for your child. Our goal is to create an environment in the greater Florida hockey community to promote stronger competition at all ages. We currently field teams in the 2017 and 2018 age groups.

LARRY ROBBINS | CEO
• 2015-2023: Owner of the Chicago Steel (USHL), Clark Cup Champions in 2017, 2021. Notable Steel alumni include Owen Power (#1 Pick, 2021 NHL Draft - BUF), Adam Fantilli (#3 Pick,
2023 NHL Draft - CBJ), Macklin Celebrini (Projected #1 Pick,
2024 NHL Draft)
• 2006-2024: Coach of North Jersey Avalanche, #1 ranked midget program in the United States (per MyHockey).
Reached USA Hockey Nationals 13 times
• Coached over 75 players who have advanced to Tier | juniors.
Division 1 college, and professional ice hockey including several NHL players and prospects
• Four-year player for the University of Pennsylvania - served three years as team captain
• Awarded 2018 Triple Impact Award by the Positive Coaching Alliance for developing youth hockey on local and national level and dedication to educational philanthropy
• Current Chairman of the Board of KIPP New York and Array Education, Board Member of the Robin Hood Foundation, Zearn, and Relay Graduate School of Education
• Current owner of the Florida Surf, the Florida Wave, and Palm Beach Breakers
• 2025 Winner of the Gasparini Award for Distinguished Service by the USHL
ROB LAFERRIERE | PRESIDENT
• Played youth hockey in Massachusetts and prep school hockey at Tabor Academy
• Played NCAA Division I college hockey at Princeton University and Boston College
• 1990-1991 ECAC All-Rookie team, runner-up ECAC Rookie of the Year
• 1994 Beanpot Champion
• Attendee and instructor at Paul Vincent Dynamic Skating for 10 years
• Head coach of the New Jersey Colonials 2001 AAA team for 8 years, NYHL or AYHL league and playoff champions all 8
years
• Nine players from '01 Colonials went on to play NCAA Division I college hockey (4 - Harvard University, 2 - Boston College,
1 - University of Notre Dame, 1 - Colgate University, 1 - Union College)
• Five players from '01 Colonials were selected in the NHL
Draft (#76, 83, 139, 166, 172)
• Three players from "01 Colonials are currently playing in the AHL and one is playing in the NHL

• Played youth hockey in New York for St. Francis High Prep
• St. Francis High Prep team captain 2008-2009 season
• Played two seasons in the United States Hockey League, tallying 45 points (18G, 27A) over 106 total games played for the Sioux Falls Stampede and Waterloo Black Hawks
• Played four seasons of NCAA Division | hockey for Yale University totaling 12 goals and 13 assists across 85 career appearances
• 2013 National Champion with Yale University
• Head Coach of St. Francis High Prep 2017-2018
• Coaching experience includes roles as assistant coach and head coach for North Jersey Avalanche 15U and 16U teams starting in 2021
